Evans Farm was originally owned by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Edward Evans, who came to Brighton from England, in 1850. They had only one child, Joseph Jr. When Joseph Jr. married, he settled into another home on the farm property. These homes are located at 281 and 333 Edgewood Avenue. Joseph Jr. and his wife Susan had seven children. Joseph Evans,
Jr. died in 1894, but his widow continued to live in her home while she raised her seven children. Susan Evans lived at Evans Farm until the late 1940's. Different members of the family lived in one or both of the homes until 1957 when the last portion of the farm was sold.
The Evans Farm tract was first developed in 1955. At that time the plan was to build 50 houses. The first residents of Evans Farm were mostly young families- many of them World War 2 veterans. There was high demand to live in the Evans Farm tract, and as a result, there was 11 years of building which resulted in the 350+ homes we have today.
The neighborhood association was formed to make the neighborhood a safe and pleasant place to live as well as to advocate for the needs of the neighborhood. As a result, this neighborhood is steeped in longstanding traditions such as the Annual Memorial Day Parade and the Annual Neighborhood Picnic.
