Be sure to tell us your name and street address. We do not share this information with anyone.

November 2009: BRIGHTON WINTER FARMERS' MARKET
Tuesdays 4-7 pm through December 22
Atonement Lutheran Church - 1900 Westfall Rd.
The approach of colder weather no longer means the end of fresh local, sustainably grown fruits and vegetables. Visit the new Brighton Winter Farmers' Market, and you'll find tables piled high with colorful, fragrant foods including apples, pears, winter squash, pumpkins, lettuce, greens, carrots, broccoli, garlic, and much more -- just in time for holiday feasts. The market also offers meat, including certified organic beef and pork, dairy, baked goods, fresh flavored pasta, honey, jellies and jams, chocolates and fudge, coffee, and more. Several of the farmers offer certified organic produce, or produce grown with no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. Starting November 24, Christmas trees grown with no pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides will be available.
The market is sponsored by the Town of Brighton. See www.brightonfarmersmarket.org for more information, or visit us on Facebook. For questions, e-mail info@brightonfarmersmarket.org

Brighton's Pharmaceutical Collection and Disposal Event
Take your old, unused or unwanted prescription drugs and/or over-the-counter medicines and have them properly and safely disposed of at Brighton’s Pharmaceutical Collection and Disposal Event.

Saturday, June 20, 2009 * RAIN OR SHINE
Brighton Town Hall Public Safety Wing
2300 Elmwood Avenue
8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Flushing unused or expired drugs can actually lead to contamination of the water supply and end up in your home. The water you drink, bathe, and wash your dishes in could have traces of antibiotics, estrogen, narcotics, antidepressants and other pharmaceutical chemicals in it. Not to mention that medicines that are thrown in the trash can be taken by anyone to be later sold on the street or shared. Disposing of unused and expired medicines left in your home means you know for sure that you’re doing your part to keep children safe.

IT’S EASY---NO LEAVING YOUR CAR AND NO FORMS TO FILL OUT!

June 2009
From the Brighton Police Department - Reported Thefts and Burglaries:
Since May 1st, 2009 the Brighton Community has experienced a significant increase in the number of reported thefts of items from parked vehicles. A majority of the incidents involved vehicles that were not locked or secured. Vehicles that were locked had valuables that were left in plain sight. There has been no specific pattern to the thefts. However, GPS and small electronic devices seem to be the items that the thieves are after. Vehicles that were parked in parking lots as well as in private driveways have been targeted.

A second trend developing involves the increase in reported residential burglaries. In the past few weeks a total of 14 incidents have been reported to the Brighton Police. The common link to these crimes involves a subject entering the home (including apartments) via open and unsecured sliding doors and windows primarily during nighttime hours. We are urging residents to ensure that their doors and windows are secure.

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS:

  • Secure all doors and windows.

  • Locking mechanisms are available at hardware stores that allow for doors and windows to be open for air flow but prevent them from being fully opened.

  • Lock all vehicles.

  • Remove all valuables from inside the vehicle.

  • Remove and hide from view any electronic cradles or carriers.

  • Document and have available serial numbers for electronic devices (a number of items have been recovered but unfortunately the owners cannot be identified

Call 911 immediately when suspicious persons are observed.

It has come to my attention that there have been reports of small thefts in Evans Farm. The Brighton police are aware of the situation, and feel that it is primarily individuals who are looking for unlocked cars where they can quickly grab loose change, sunglasses, etc. We should be conscientious to not leave our cars unlocked and to watch out for each other.

Andy Gallina of Gallina Development Corp. has contacted me because his firm recently purchased the building at 1870 South Winton Road and the adjacent 14 acres of vacant land. They have applied to the Town of Brighton Planning Board for site plan review of two proposed single story office buildings on a portion of the site. Mr. Gallina would like to make contact with the Evans Farm Neighborhood Association regarding his proposal so that he may share his vision for the development as well as answer any questions that Evans Farm Neighbors may have. As more information becomes available, it will be posted- including Town Planning Board meeting dates.

One-Person Plowing: Tom Low, Brighton Commissioner of Public Works has decided to go forward with the one person plowing program. Evans Farm was a "pilot" route for the 2006-2007 winter season. I have received a letter from Mr. Low indicating that our neighborhood "may be among those served" by the one person plow this winter.

Garbage Collection: Unfortunately, Flower City residential service is no longer in operation.  Thanks to Jim Hulse for the great service he provided, and for working with the neighborhood association. Lilac Disposal services absorbed clients that were being served by Flower City, but since that contract expired in June, they are no longer willing to honor the price quote that we had received from Flower City. EFNA is working with other area refuse companies to negotiate a contract rate. Web site updates will be made as information becomes available.
